Ten Places To See Before You Die

Ijen Volcano, Indonesia

Kawah Ijen is a volcano that is located in the southernmost tip of Java. This is one of the most unique places I have ever visited. Besides the incredible beauty of this place, Ijen volcano is an active sulfur mine. Around 200 people work very hard to get the solidified sulfur from the crust of the volcano.

Ijen volcano is one of the most unique natural places you’re ever going to visit

During your trip to the volcano, which usually starts at midnight, you will see amazing blue fires that burn the soil of the volcano. According to National Geographic, the fires in Ijen crater make up the largest blue flame area in the world. The flame occurs when liquid sulfur and gas gets ignited. Sometimes (on a windy night) the blue fire of Ijen can get 5 meters high.

At the very bottom of the crater you will find a sulfur lake that you shouldn’t swim in of course, but you can try the temperature of the water with your hand  – it is very warm. This made me think that the heat from Earth’s mantle is quite strong and maybe this dormant volcano is not so dormant.

On the edge of the volcano crater, when the sun rises up, there is an amazing view of the neon green acid lake and the dead tree forest that hangs from the very edge of the crater. Such a picture rests in your memory forever.

Chichen Itza, Mexico

Here is another pyramid that is considered to be one of the Wonders of the World – Chichen Itza. However, it is located on the other side of the planet, all the way in Mexico. And it was built not by the ancient Egyptians, but by the ancient Mayans, another great and full of mystery civilization.

Chichen Itza is not just a lone standing pyramid in the middle of nowhere, it is a whole city in the middle of which stands an amazing pyramid that played the role of a temple for Mayans.

Before going to Chichen Itza I strongly recommend reading a history about this place, and especially the story of how it was discovered in 1841 by two great explorers of that time.

Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China is one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”. The construction of the Great Wall of China started in 221 BC during the rule of the first Chinese Emperor. It took 1800 years to build 13,000 miles of the wall.

The Great Wall of China is one of the most notorious structures in the world. It is known that to build the wall China used prisoners and soldiers, many of whom died (around 400,000 people) and were buried within the wall.

Nowadays, the Great Wall of China is one of the most popular places to visit in China, and certainly makes a list of the places to see before you die.

You might have heard something about Komodo dragons, a huge reptile endemic to just a few Indonesian islands. They got the name “dragon” because of their size. It is not just a small lizard, the Komodo dragon grows up to 3 meters and can weigh up to 70 kilograms.

Petra city was built sometime between the 4th and the 2nd century BC by the people known as Nabateans. It grew to be a very important city at that time due to many trade routes that led through Petra.

Eventually the rich city of Petra became the lost city of Petra between the 7th and the 19th century. Only Bedouins that traveled all over the desert knew about the city.

The most famous thing to see when you get to Petra is the Treasury. It is the most iconic part of the lost city of Petra. You probably have seen it in the “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” movie.

Christ the Redeemer was created by a French sculptor and Brazilian engineer. The statue was built between 1922 and 1931 on Mount Corcovado (700 meters). The height of the statue is 30 meters plus an 8 meter pedestal.

Gardens By The Bay, Singapore

Gardens by the Bay is one of the most beautiful places in Singapore. It is a man-made garden that extends out from behind the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel. One of the most famous features are the ‘supertrees’. There are 18 of those trees that are made not just for tourist entertainment, but also to educate.

People from all over the city gather in the garden to watch an amazing 15 minutes show of lights and colors in combination with thousands of plants that grow on those giant Supertrees.

The Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon rainforest is one of the richest places for a variety of plants and animals. It is one of the cradles of civilization that is sadly disappearing rapidly. Our grand kids might not be able to see it the way it is today.

More and more square meters of the rainforest are destroyed every year for the purpose of getting rich. With the vegetation gone, the animals are dying as well. So there might not be that much time to see and experience the whole beauty of the Amazon rainforest.

The Amazon rainforest is a place to see amazing animals and birds, beautiful flowers and unique plants, and experience life in small local villages. The Amazon rainforest is one of the places that should be on everyone’s must visit list.

Luxor + Pyramid of Giza, Egypt

Egypt is a land of many wonders. There are so many ancient runes that it is hard to choose the best ones. Nevertheless, there are two locations that stand out and that you should certainly visit in Egypt at least once in a lifetime: Luxor, and the pyramids of Giza.

Both of the locations you can visit in one trip, and neither should be skipped.

Luxor is an ancient pharaoh city that was at one time (between the 16th and 11th century BC) the capital of their kingdom. It lies on the east bank of the river Nile in the south of Egypt.

Luxor is one of the most amazing openair museums in the world. It is a home to few of the best preserved monuments, amazing temples, and important tombs.

Ten Places To See Before You Die : Pyramid of Giza

There is no need to talk a lot about the Pyramids of Giza and why everyone should see them in their lifetime. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In fact, it is the oldest of the Seven Wonders and the only one that remained intact until present times.

Pyramid of Giza

Besides the information above, you probably know that the Pyramid at Giza is the largest pyramid in Egypt, and that so many mysteries surround this structure.

Ten Places To See Before You Die

For the longest time humanity couldn’t figure out how in the 26th century BC, without any technology, such a massive sight was built. Nor why after that no one built pyramids in the same way. The scientists still aren’t 100 % sure if their theories are correct.

Alhambra, Spain

The Alhambra is a palace complex that is located in Granada city in the Andalusian region of Spain. It is one of the best examples of Moorish architecture, and one of the best palace complexes / fortresses that I have ever visited.

The Alhambra contains a great combination of Muslim and Christian cultures. It is a place of utmost beauty that carries a long history of changing, improving, destruction, and surviving the worst times in European history.

The Alhambra is also considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Muslim World. As you probably understood by now, there are a lot of different lists with wonders of the World, however they are all important and deserve a place in the “places to see before you die” list.
