Take A Boat Trip From Agios Nikolaos To Shipwreck Beach

There are two ways to see the famous Shipwreck beach in Zakynthos. One of them is to drive to the viewpoint and see it from a cliff. The other one is to take a boat trip from Agios Nikolaos to Shipwreck beach from the sea. 

Agios Nikolaos is a small town that is located on the North of Zakynthos. It is about a 45 minute drive from Zante Town, or about an hour from Laganas. The village operates just during the season, therefore in winter no one, save for a few fishermen, lives in Agios Nikolaos. 

Agios Nikolaos is most popular for people looking to take day trips to the famous Zakynthos Blue Caves and Shipwreck beach. However, there are a few different ways to arrange this. 

How to Visit the Shipwreck Beach  

On the streets of Agios Nikolaos (it is actually just one main street), you will see a few stands that offer boat tours to the Shipwreck beach. They will also offer you different prices, so don’t book your tour at the first stand, rather look around and find the best price. 

We did exactly the same thing and found “Theodosis Cruises”. Well actually we met a super friendly guy – Captain Dimitris who offered us a boat tour with the best price. All the reviews that we found about Dimitris’ tour were positive, so that was perfect: the best price + great reviews. 

Captain Dimitris had two boat tours per day to the Shipwreck beach: one at 10:30 AM and at 12:30 PM. Some people wrote that it is best to go after noon, since there will be less people, but I found that no matter what time your tour is, it is going to be very crowded. 

Shipwreck beach is the first stop. You will have just an hour of free time at the beach before heading to the blue caves.  So, the best thing to do for those who want to enjoy the Shipwreck beach longer is to ask your captain if you can arrive with the first tour and leave with the last one. In this case you will have more than 3 hours at the beach. You also should be aware that there is no bathroom, no cafes, and no shops at Shipwreck beach. 

After Shipwreck beach you will be taken to some of the many blue caves of Zakynthos.  Some of them you will be able to visit with a boat, the others you’ll need to swim in by yourself. You’ll have 15 – 20 minutes for swimming and then the boat will take you back to Agios Nikolaos.
