The Best Beaches On Zakynthos Island, Greece

Zakynthos is one of the most popular islands in Greece. The reason for this are amazing beaches around the island, one of which is the Shipwreck beach. After exploring the entire island I made a list of the best beaches on Zakynthos to visit.

Shipwreck Beach

As I already mentioned, the Shipwreck beach is the most famous beach not only in Zakynthos, but also in Greece. It is also one of the most recognizable beaches in the world. That is why I am putting Shipwreck beach as number one.

Shipwreck Beach

Shipwreck beach is definitely a must do thing on Zakynthos island. If you are traveling to this island, you just must see Shipwreck beach. There are two ways you can do it.

Shipwreck Beach

The first one is to visit the actual beach (you can get to the Shipwreck beach just from the sea). You can easily do that from a charming town called Agios Nikolaos. There they offer boat trips to the beach. However the trips often get canceled due to stormy seas, so you better plan one or two days extra for this activity in case the weather is bad.

Shipwreck Beach

The second way to see Shipwreck beach is to visit the famous viewpoint. All those amazing pictures that you have seen are from the same viewpoint. The best time to visit the Shipwreck beach viewpoint is after 6 PM during golden hour. The pictures will look the best at this time, because there is no shadow, and also after 6 PM the guard leaves, so you can actually walk to the best location to see Shipwreck beach (it might be a bit dangerous though so be careful).

Porto Limnionas Beach

Porto Limnionas is a rocky inlet that just recently has become a known tourist spot. It is not a regular beach with sand and shallow water. This place is not for relaxing on the beach, but for fun in the water.

Porto Limnionas Beach

Due to its turquoise water and rocks around it, Porto Limnionas looks magical. It is one of the best spots for jumping in the water, snorkeling, and exploring caves.

Porto Limnionas Beach

Due to the recent popularity of Porto Limnionas beach, the government fixed the road that leads there, and a restaurant with lounge chairs and changing rooms was built.

Since Porto Limnionas beach is located out of the way from everything, you can make a visit to this beach as a day trip and have a lot of fun there.

Note: remember that this is a very rocky place, so it’s best to bring water shoes with you. A snorkeling mask would be good to have as well.

Mizithres, Keri

Mizithres beach is yet another unique beach in Zakynthos and one of the best beaches on this island. You will be surprised to know that this beach was created not that ago. However it is not a man-made place, the beach was created during an earthquake. A part of rock just fell down into the sea and created a beautiful new beach in Zakynthos.

Just like with Shipwreck beach, you can visit Mizithres beach just from the sea, or see it from the viewpoint on top of the cliff.

Mizithres, Keri

The best viewpoint is located near the restaurant “Lighthouse” in Keri. Before the restaurant there will be an empty space on the left side. Take a walk through that field, you probably will notice a trail there that leads to a hidden viewpoint. There are usually no people and it is one of the best places to see Mizithres beach.

Xigia Sulfur Beach

Xigia Sulfur beach is a well known health spot on Zakynthos islands. Locals say that the sulfur that is present in the water at that beach is very good for your skin and your body in general. I am not sure how good sulfur is for your body, but I have seen sulfur hot springs in Tbilisi, Georgia and how popular they are. So, I guess it is at least not bad for your body.

Xigia Sulfur beach is located not far from Agios Nikolaos town (just 15 minutes drive). And due to its sulfur qualities the beach can get quite crowded during the season.

Cameo Island

Cameo Island is another place where you will find a beautiful beach. It is a private island and to enter it you have to pay a fee of €5. This is your ticket price that includes the entrance to the Cameo island and a keychain with your photo on the island. After you enter the island your photo is taken by a photographer and in 30 minutes a keychain is ready to be picked up.

The island has a few restaurants where you can get refreshments, but the best part is a small charming beach here.

Cameo Island

The beach itself is not that special: it is rocky, small, and looks ordinary for Greece. However the highlight of this place is an atmosphere that is created by long pieces of white thin fabric that hangs over the water. For some reason you watch that fabric move due to the wind and you are enchanted.

Hidden Beach Agios Nikolaos

This is my personal favorite beach that I accidentally found. You probably won’t find anything about this beach on other travel blogs, but I just want to share with you this location, and maybe you would visit it and fall in love with the view like me.

In Agios Nikolaos town there is a restaurant called Madrakia Tavern. From the main road it doesn’t look like much, but it is a good place with delicious food, and most importantly with an amazing view of a small hidden beach.

The beach is quite small and there are not a lot of people hanging out here. Mostly a few locals, and people like me who accidentally discovered this spot.
