Where To Eat In Canggu

Canggu is very popular area to stay in Bali. You will find lots of things to do and lots of places to visit. Here I made a list of cute restaurants and foods to eat in Canggu of varying cuisines.

Table Of Contents

  1. Moana
  2. The Common Café
  3. Machinery Cafe
  4. Lacalita Bar y Cocina (Mexican food)
  5. The Loft
  6. Warung Tania Babi Guling
  7. Old Man’s

Moana (Seafood)

We found this cozy place accidentally. We wanted to go to a different restaurant when I saw this beautiful place, all lit up with a big tree in the middle of the restaurant. That seemed like my kind of place, so we decided to have dinner there.

Where to eat in Canggu: Moana

We came there at 7 PM and the Moana restaurant already was really crowded. The waitress asked us if we have a reservation, which we, of course, didn’t have. So then she offered us a table, but just for one hour since they had later reservations. We are fast eaters (if you can say this) so it worked out just fine.

The costs of food and drinks were average for Canggu area (higher than in Ubud). I wasn’t that hungry, and I wanted to try different dishes, so I got a Moana mixed plate and Cody got a fish filet with rice and salad. Both dishes were delicious, so we decided to come back.

Fish file

During our stay in Canggu we have been to Moana a few times and every time the food was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Common Café

If you like tasty sweet cocktails and are not a vegan than the Common cafe for you (they do have some vegan dishes though). We have tried almost all the cocktails on the menu and the best were the Coffee Martini and the Classic Margarita (one of my favourite). When we were looking for a place to eat in Canggu after arriving from the airport at 9 pm this was our first stop.

Fried calamari

The prices for drinks are average for Canggu, food on the other hand is cheaper. The place does a great happy hour or something like that and all the main dishes cost just 60,000 IDR. We were able to get the burger what usually costs 110,000 IDR just for 60,000 IDR.

The food menu has a wide selection of different dishes (meats, seafood, veggies). We ended up coming here once more since the food is good and the prices are affordable.

Machinery Café

Machinary cafe

I recommend this place for breakfasts and lunches. The café has a great selection of breakfast dishes including the smoothie bowls. For everyone who likes dragon fruit or to take pretty pictures of the food I recommend getting the Dragon smoothie bowl. It looks fantastic and tastes as good as it looks.

Cody of course ended up regretting his choice of the Potato Rosti for breakfast, not because he didn’t like the food (it was great actually) but because my smoothie bowl looked really good.

Lacalita Bar y Cocina (Mexican)

Where to eat in Canggu: Lacalita bar y Cocina

Ever since I went to Mexico, I became a fan of Mexican cuisine. And my favorite Mexican food is the churro (Mexcan churros are so much better than Spanish churros). Naturally when we saw this place, we decided we should eat there. As you probably know, not all Mexican restaurants serve authentic Mexican food, but the Lacalita bar y Cocina had a good mix of classic Mexican, and Mexican-American.

Churro

We tried a few dishes from this place and all of them were good. Of course, I got my Churro dessert (actually, I want to write an article about the best churros I have tried, what a great excuse to get this dessert everywhere I can, right?). It was good except I think they should put less cinnamon sugar on top, it is really easy to breath in this powder and then you jut have a nasty cough.

The Loft

The Loft

The Loft café just brings this vibe of digital nomads and young expats. This place is great for breakfasts and lunches as well. Wide selection of smoothie bowls and all the other healthy stuff you might want to try in Bali.

Smoothie bowl

The place is always crowded and sometimes you need to wait to get a table. I recommend to get the freshly squeezed juice, “Green Detox”. It is very refreshing and goes well with your breakfast. The prices here are average as well and the wifi is fast so you can get some work done and enjoy your healthy and tasty food.

 Warung Tania Babi Guling

Where to eat in Canggu: Babi Guling

If you’re looking to eat in Canggu classic Balinese food, then you have to have Babi Guling. This is sometimes a streetfood, sometimes a sit down restaurant, and always delicious. This place isn’t on the main street, but it is just a few minutes walk away.

Baba Guling

Babi Guling is a plate of half a dozen different parts of a suckling pig, and served with rice and soup. Order it spicy with an ice cold beer for just 70,000 IDR and I know you’ll be satisfied.

Old Man’s

This is a popular beach restaurant with locals and expats alike. They have great prices for their drinks (especially during happy hour) and it always seems to have something going on. Every night there are different events, from live music to beer pong competitions.
