The Most Charming Villages In Milos, Greece

Milos is one of the Cycladic islands in Greece. It is quite a popular tourist destination due to some of the most unique beaches in Greece (Sarakiniko beach) and charming fishing villages that dot the coast of Milos.

Klima Village

Klima village Milos

Klima village is one of the best  places for photography in Milos. Klima is a charming little village that has a strip of fishermen’s houses along the water.

Two story white buildings with colorful windows and doors are all located in a row. The buildings basically stand in the water which may seem strange, but don’t forget that Klima is a fishing village. The first floor here is a boat garage, and the second floor is a living area.

Plaka Village

Plaka village is the capital of Milos. It is a great place to explore. Walk along the narrow white streets and get a drink at one of the colorful cafes in Plaka.

Plaka village has actually quite a few things to do, besides just walking around. You can visit the Archaeological museum that is located in the center of Plaka.

The other popular thing that you should do is visit Plaka castle, a venetian fortress that was built around the 13th century. Nowadays, you can’t exactly call it a fortress, or a castle, it is just a ruin in bad condition surrounding a church. Nevertheless, the view that you get from the top of the hill where the Plaka castle is located is magnificent. The best time to visit Plaka castle would be during the golden hours.

Note: don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes (sneakers are the best), and take enough water for a climb (takes around 20 minutes).

Firopotamos Village

Firopotamos village is the tiniest village I have seen on Milos island. However it is no less charming than Plaka village.

At Firopotamos village you will find a beautiful church hanging on the cliff over the sea. You can climb the cliff behind the church from where you will get a nice view of the village.

Firopotamos village is a quiet place with cute buildings, a beautiful beach, and a few people (at least during my visit).

Mandrakia Village

Mandrakia Village

Mandrakia village is located just 4 km from Plaka and it is very easy to get to. At the entrance to the village there is a big free parking lot on the right, and on the left across the street right away you can enjoy a beautiful view.

Mandrakia Village

Mandrakia village is a fishing village that was built around a beautiful bay. The combination of white washed buildings and turquoise water always takes my breath away. Just like with Klima village, Mandrakia village is a great spot for photography.

However, you might notice a bit of a difference between Klima and Mandrakia villages. Despite that the other villages like Klima use different colors for doors and windows, Mandrakia uses mostly blue colors, which to me seems a bit more strict.

Pollonia Village

Pollonia village is the second most popular place to stay in Milos (after Adamantas). Here you will find a beachfront, cute whitewashed buildings, and cozy taverns along the water.

Pollonia village is also a great choice for those tourists who want to visit the neighboring island of Kimolos.

Even if you have decided to stay somewhere else, Pollonia village is still a great place to visit and have lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.
