The Best Place To Stay On Milos, Greece

Milos is an island that has a lot to offer for tourists; unique beaches, cycladic villages, and charming boutique hotels all around the island. With all of that it can be very hard to decide where is the best, most comfortable place to stay and have your base.

So, what criterias are we looking at when choosing the place to stay:

  1. Location (we usually want to stay in the center of all the action. It can be hard to determine where such a spot is on the island with many small villages spread throughout it).
  2. Restaurants/shopping (of course we need to eat. And if we are tourists we want good local cuisine and great places to get souvenirs).
  3. Easy access to public transportation or/and rental offices (to explore an island you will have to use public transportation, or rent a car).
  4. Hotel options (of course we want to have a wide choice of places we can live at. First, competition is usually good for service quality, and second, it is more likely that we will find something that really suits our needs).

These are the most important criterias that I consider when choosing a place to stay. Having stayed on Milos for quite a long time, and exploring amazing sites and cute villages, I came to the conclusion that the best place to stay on Milos is Adamantas town (also known as Adamas).

The Best Place To Stay On Milos: Adamas Port

Adamantas town is the main port town that you arrive into (most likely), if you are taking a ferry. It is also pretty close to Milos airport (9 minutes drive). Adamas is the biggest village/town on the island with around 1300 population. This is a cultural center of the island and it truly deserves to be named “the heart of Milos”.

Adamantas is full of great restaurants, especially those that serve seafood. You can find a great spot along the coast and enjoy a delicious meal for a reasonable price.

Adamas restaurants

There are many places to get everything you need: from morning coffee and fresh pastry to a fancy cocktail at a terrace bar with an amazing view of the harbour.

However, there are not really many things to do in Adamas town except for exploring cycladic architecture, visiting local beaches and museums, enjoying Greek cuisine, and shopping.

Local beach

Planning on getting some souvenirs from Milos? Want to get a new trendy swimsuit? Looking for accessories for your camera? Adamas town is the best place to find everything you need and more.

Adamas also has the biggest concentration of rental offices. You can find pretty much anything you like if you will ask around. In fact it is best that you visit a few rental companies since they all have different deals. We, for example, started with a price of 50€ per day and eventually found a place that offered us 30€ per day per automatic car if you rent for more than 2 days (manual was cheaper).

The bus system on Milos is pretty great and you can explore pretty much the whole island by bus during season. And there cannot be a better place than Adamas, since almost all the buses start or end their routes in Adamas town.

The same goes for hotels. Adamas is full of options for any budget. There are plenty of studios and cute boutique hotels with breakfast included, and even pools on site.

The Negatives

However as always there are some negatives to staying in Adamas that I cannot go past and not mention.

Adamas is great for people that like to socialize and go to bed when the sun is rising. For those who are looking to relax, Adamas can be quite loud and crowded, especially during high season.

Another thing that you should be aware of – Adamas is not the prettiest village on Milos. There are definitely other places on the island that you will find more charming.

And as I already mentioned – there are not a lot of things to do in Adamas, except eating, drinking and shopping. You will need just half a day to explore the whole place and visit local museums if you are into this. For people who wish for a more serene setting you are best off looking to the west for small villages with AirBnBs that you can rent and enjoy tranquility.
