Hotel Review: Atlant (Uzhhorod, Ukraine)

Uzhhorod is one of the small but beautiful cities in Ukraine that is worth visiting. Uzhhorod is not only famous for its cherry blossom festival, but an ancient castle, great cathedrals, a beautiful synagogue and for many other things. Due to some local tourists, the city has quite a few hotels and hostels. During our visit we chose to stay in Hotel Atlant, so here is my honest review of this place.

Location

During our search for an accommodation in Uzhhorod, the priority was location. Hotel Atlant is located in the center of the city. It is less than 5 minutes walk to the main street of the Old Town and 10 minutes to Uzhhorod castle.

If you are visiting Uzhhorod during the Sakura Fest, Atlant is a great choice, since the best Sakura alleys are located nearby.

Check-In & Check-Out

Check-In is quite standard at 2 PM. If you are coming earlier you can just leave your luggage at the front desk (same with check-out) and start exploring the city.

Check-out is at 12 PM and there is nothing else I can add to this. The procedure is quite simple.

The Room

We booked the standard cheapest room they have with a queen bed on the fourth floor. And I know you might think that this is great, the view must be amazing. Unfortunately, the rooms on the fourth floor don’t have proper windows, just a skylight.

Besides the bed, the room had a small couch, a wooden table with a chair, soft armchair, TV and a fridge with a few choices of drinks (not free).

What surprised me was the bathroom. For such a room I expected a small tiny shower, but the bathroom ended up to be almost the size of the room with a big bathtub and plenty of space to do your morning exercises (if needed). The hotel provided us with soaps and shampoos. The towels were exchanged every day as well.

Breakfast

Hotel Atlant has breakfast included. The restaurant where the breakfast is served is on the second floor and it looks a bit like it should have been a storage room. There are not enough tables for all the people staying in the hotel and some had to be turned away and asked to come a bit later.

The restaurant had a few breakfast choices, we as per usual chose sunny side up eggs with bacon. The food was served with juice, coffee or tea, a basket of bread, and some cheese and butter. And although the food was alright the presentation was not the greatest. It reminded me of how my grandma would make a quick breakfast for us kids, before going to work in her garden.

Conclusion

Overall I recommend staying at Atlant Hotel, the location is great, service is good and the price is acceptable. Although there is nothing wrong with this hotel and we quite enjoyed staying here, this will be a poor choice for those who are looking for something fancy and luxurious.
