The Jewel is a nature-themed complex that is located on the grounds of Changi airport in Singapore. Assuming you land in Terminal 1 the first thing that you will get to after passport control is the Jewel, otherwise you can take a sky train or a bus to get there from other terminals and then explore the Jewel.
The Jewel is the biggest entertainment complex that connects to an airport in the world. The centerpiece of this marvelous human creation is the tallest indoor waterfall – the Rain Vortex, and a 5 story terraced jungle which surrounds the waterfall.
The idea of creating such a place came from the need to keep Changi’s important status as one of the major aviation hubs in Asia. The Jewel includes more than 300 stores and restaurants, a hotel and aviation facilities, and the most interesting and unique attractions.
The Rain Vortex is a 40-meters tall indoor waterfall. The waterfall actually uses collected rainwater which is then pumped to the roof to free fall into the acrylic funnel at the bottom. This design prevents the water splashing all over the place and making a loud sound.
If you have arrived in Singapore Changi airport in the evening don’t miss the free Rain Vortex Light Show. It takes place every hour on the half from 7:30 to 11:30. The light show lasts about 5 minutes.

Shiseido Forest Valley is one of Asia’s biggest indoor gardens and it is located in the center of the Jewel at Changi airport. The garden is terraced and goes up five stories. It is an incredible collection of plants and greenery that includes more than three thousand trees and around sixty thousand plants from all around the world.
The Shiseido forest valley is free to enter and you can just relax on one of the comfortable benches among the greenery and enjoy the fresh smell and the sound of falling water from the Rain Vortex.
The first time I saw the forest valley in the Jewel it took my breath away, I couldn’t believe that something so amazing can be created by people. The things I felt there was like coming to Disneyland for the first time, plus someone told you that Santa Clause is real and much more than that.
