Explore The Jewel Changi Airport

The Jewel is a nature-themed complex that is located on the grounds of Changi airport in Singapore. Assuming you land in Terminal 1 the first thing that you will get to after passport control is the Jewel, otherwise you can take a sky train or a bus to get there from other terminals and then explore the Jewel.

The Jewel is the biggest entertainment complex that connects to an airport in the world. The centerpiece of this marvelous human creation is the tallest indoor waterfall – the Rain Vortex, and a 5 story terraced jungle which surrounds the waterfall.

The idea of creating such a place came from the need to keep Changi’s important status as one of the major aviation hubs in Asia. The Jewel includes more than 300 stores and restaurants, a hotel and aviation facilities, and the most interesting and unique attractions.

The Jewel Attractions:

The Rain Vortex

The Rain Vortex is a 40-meters tall indoor waterfall. The waterfall actually uses collected rainwater which is then pumped to the roof to free fall into the acrylic funnel at the bottom. This design prevents the water splashing all over the place and making a loud sound.

The first time I saw the forest valley in the Jewel it took my breath away, I couldn’t believe that something so amazing can be created by people. The things I felt there was like coming to Disneyland for the first time, plus someone told you that Santa Clause is real and much more than that. This is truly an amazing creation that blows your mind.

Canopy park is located on level 5 of the Jewel and includes a huge amount of attractions presented in the complex. The Canopy park houses two gardens: Topiary Walk and Petal Garden. There are mazes and sky nets that you can enjoy, and of course the Canopy Bridge, amazing slides, and even something called “Foggy Bowls”.

Although all these attractions are in Canopy park, there are some that need a separate admission ticket. So, let’s get a closer look and understand how much everything costs and what attractions are included in the different tickets.

Topiary Walk

There is a ticket to the Canopy Park that includes: Discovery Sliders, Foggy Bowls, Petal Garden and Topiary Walk.

  • Discovery Slides: a playground that contains four big slides (two tubes and two sliding surfaces). The discovery slides offer a nice view from the top. To use the slides better to wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no dresses or heels). Hours: daily 10 AM to 11 PM
  • Foggy Bowls: it looks like it sounds. There are four bowls from which the mist comes out and create an illusion of a cloud. You can sit in the bowl and play among the clouds. Hours: daily 10 AM to 11 PM
  • Petal Garden: the garden has a seasonal floral display. Hours: daily 10 AM to 11 PM
  • Topiary Walk: this garden presents colourful animal shaped topiaries. It is a photo-friendly place where every tourist takes pictures at least with one flower animal. Other than the topiaries the garden has a charming pond with cute lilies. Hours: daily 10 AM to 11 PM

The attractions that need a separate ticket are: Canopy Bridge, Hedge Maze, Mirror Maze, Manulife Sky Nets – Bouncing and Manulife Sky Nets – Walking.

Sky Nets
  • Canopy Bridge: the Canopy bridge is a 50-meters long, 23-metes high suspension bridge. The bridge has a see through bottom in the middle part of it and mist at both sides. The mist is supposed to make you feel as you are walking among the clouds. Although the bridge offers a spectacular view of the Rain Vortex and Shiseido Forest Valley, this place is not for faint of heart. Hours: daily 10 AM to 10 PM, Price (includes admission to Canopy Park): Adult/Child/Senior – SGD 8
  • Hedge Maze: this is the largest hedge maze in Singapore. The walls made of hedge plants are 1.8 meters high and it is located at the eastern end of the Jewel. At the end of this maze you’ll get to the watchtower which offers a bird-eye view of the hedge maze. Hours: daily 10 AM to 10 PM, Price (includes admission to Canopy Park): Adult – SGD 12, Child/Senior – SGD 8
  • Mirror Maze: this attraction became one of my favourites from the Canopy park. The mirror maze is covered with a ceiling of plants which creates an amazing atmosphere. At the entrance you will be given pool noodles to swipe in front of yourself at all times you are planning to move. Hours: daily 10 AM to 10 PM, Price (includes admission to Canopy Park): Adult – SGD 15, Child/Senior – SGD 10
  • Sky Nets – Bouncing: this net is 250-meters long and 8 meters high and it is suspended above the Canopy park. The nets are safe even for kids and will make you feel weightless. A great experience that you can enjoy if you are wearing comfortable shoes and clothes (pants, shorts). I saw that some people were denied entry to this attraction just due to the not suitable clothes. Hours: daily 10 AM to 10 PM, Price (includes admission to Canopy Park): Adult – SGD 22, Child/Senior – SGD 16
  • Sky Nets – Walking: this is one big net that you won’t forget. The net is suspended over the Shiseido Forest Valley (25 meters above level one). Hours: daily 10 AM to 10 PM, Price (includes admission to Canopy Park): Adult – SGD 15, Child/Senior – SGD 10
