First of all, you need to know that Kyiv is split on two parts by the main river Dnipro. So, there is a right bank Kyiv and a left bank Kyiv and you will want to stay on the right bank (west side, the river flows north to south). Why? Well, it is simply the matter that the right bank is the center of Kyiv, there are all the sights you need to visit and mostly because the left bank has nothing to offer except industrial sights and Soviet Union apartment buildings. And yes, I am exaggerating a little bit, but seriously you don’t want to stay on the left bank.

After we established that the right bank is the right choice, let’s look on the map and find a perfect location. Of course, one of the best places to stay in Kyiv is Khreshchatyk street, the main street in Kyiv that leads to Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence square). Although there are a few hotels around that area, I would not recommend staying in some of them, for example hotel “Kozatskyi”. This is one of the oldest hotels in Kyiv which may sound unique, but the problem is that no one did any remodeling inside the hotels rooms and they look very Soviet Union which is not nice (tiny rooms, super uncomfortable beds, very cold in winter and fall). So, if you found a good Airbnb then stay in this area, if you are planning to stay in hotels then I don’t recommend staying on this street.

A few other great areas to stay during your trip I will name by the closest subway stations. And so, here are the areas in the center of the city, close to subways, with nice hotels and Airbnb’s: “Zoloti Vorota”, “Teatralna”, “Ploshcha Lva Tolstogo”, “Palats Sportu”, “Olimpiiska”, “Poshtova Ploshcha”, “Kontractova Ploshcha” and “Universytet”. If you are staying around any of these subway station (10-20 minutes’ walk), then you are staying in a great location.
