Naousa is a fishing village in Paros, one of the Cycladic islands in Greece. It is located on the northern side of the island along the second largest harbor in Paros. Naousa is a charming, small village with whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, cozy cafes, and many things to do.
Naousa fishing village is the second most popular place to stay among tourists (after Parikia). It is a very tourist friendly place just as with the rest of the island. However, unlike Mykonos (one of the most popular Cycladic islands in Greece), Paros as a whole is way less crowded.
To get to Naousa fishing village is very easy no matter if you have arrived on a ferry, or plane.
If you are coming on a ferry, you are probably coming to the main ferry port in Parikia. From there you can take a taxi, or a bus (the bus station is right next to the port). Naousa is located just 10 km away from Parikia, so it is a fairly short drive.
If you are flying into Paros’ airport, the easiest way to get to Naousa is by taking a taxi. If you are renting a car, you can also just drive yourself.
Paros island is one of my favorite Cycladic islands in Greece. It is beautiful, not that crowded, way cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini, and there are a lot of things to do.
Every fishing village in Paros has something unique to see or do, and Naousa is no exception. Therefore I made a list of things to do in Naousa, a charming fishing village.
Even if you are staying in Parikia or somewhere else, you can use this list for a day trip to Naousa.
One of the historical monuments that Naousa is famous for is the ruins of the Venetian castle/fort. This fort is located in the Old Port of Naousa and it is one of the most picturesque spots in this village.
The Venetian castle was built in the 15th century. It was used as a watchtower to spot pirates and protect commercial ships. Later in history this fort was used for war purposes.
There is a short walking path that leads to the fort. You can even get inside the ruins of the Venetian watchtower and get a few great pictures from there.
Walking along the harbor in Naousa will give you a better perspective of the local lifestyle and tradition. As I already have mentioned, Naousa is a fishing village, therefore along the harbor you will see lots of fishing boats.
Besides taking many cute photos of colorful boats, you can see how locals sun dry their catch. Some will hang the mackerels, and the others octopuses.
To try the local food is a must do thing in every country you visit, especially in Greece.
Naousa is a great place to enjoy seafood. Freshly caught, right from those fishing boats you have seen before, the seafood tastes magnificent. I especially recommend trying the sun dried octopus.
While walking along the harbor you will notice a lot of cozy waterfront restaurants. Almost all of them would have a decent seafood menu., so just choose the one you like the most, and enjoy your meal.
Piper beach is the main beach in Naousa. It is a cute sandy beach that is located on the west side of the port.
Piperi is probably not the best beach that you can visit around Naousa, but it is the closest one, and the most convenient one to visit if you are staying in Naousa village.
Whether you are staying in Naousa, or just visiting it as a day trip, you cannot skip going away from the harbor, deep into the village.
Besides the waterfront, the village itself is quite beautiful with many picturesque narrow streets.
Just get lost in the maze of the whitewashed buildings, and I am sure you will find some of the most charming spots that otherwise you would never see.
Kolimpithres beach is not just the best beach around Naousa, but also the best beach in Paros. It is quite a popular spot for its unique rock formations.
To get to Kolimpithres beach you can go by taking a public bus. It is a short ride, and the ticket costs around €2 a person.
Kolimpithres is also a great spot for kids. The water is shallow here, which makes this beach quite safe for children. Plus, due to how shallow it is, the water temperature is slightly higher than everywhere else in Paros.
