The Best Restaurants In Medellin (International Food)

After spending a month and a half in Medellin I have made a list of my favorite restaurants that serve international cuisine. Of course, the best restaurants in Medellin is a subjective list, so just know that these are chosen based on my experience and opinion. 

Relato 

Relato was the first restaurant we visited in Medellin. After eating at San Andreas beach cafes, Relato seemed so fancy and upscale. 

We didn’t book a table here, therefore we had to wait at the bar for 15 minutes to be seated. While waiting we got ourselves some delicious cocktails and enjoyed the atmosphere. 

Relato restaurant is a beautiful place with great design. Everything from the bar to tables looks trendy and welcoming. Relato is a great place for date nights. 

The food at Relato restaurant is what I would say is Asian – Colombian fusion. I can recommend trying the cotton candy pork belly and the hot ceviche. The food tasted great, and the presentation was very unique and fun.

La Taquería Cuernavaca Laureles

La Taquería Cuernavaca Laureles is a great Mexican restaurant in Medellín. It is a vibrant place that usually gets very crowded in the evening. 

At La Taquería Cuernavaca Laureles they serve great Mexican food. It actually felt quite authentic based on my trips to Mexico. I recommend just getting some tacos with a margarita. This is my go to choice every time I visit this restaurant. 

The prices at La Taquería Cuernavaca Laureles are affordable, and the service is alright (waiters here can get very busy, so sometimes it takes a while to get your drinks or food). 

Overall if you want some good Mexican food in Medellin La Taquería Cuernavaca Laureles is a good place to visit

678 KOREAN BBQ

678 KOREAN BBQ is a great restaurant where you can enjoy Korean BBQ in Medellin. 

678 KOREAN BBQ is a very popular place, so you should make a reservation before going. However they accept reservations just through WhatsApp or phone calls. If you reserve a table through Google, you will receive a confirmation letter, but the restaurant won’t get your reservation, and you won’t actually get a table. 

Prices per person at 678 KBBQ are around $30 per person, however can go higher if you plan on drinking a lot. Overall I’ve found the prices here are not that expensive for Korean BBQ.

Tika Dogs Gourmet

Tika Dogs Gourmet is a place that serves gourmet hot dogs. The best hot dogs I’ve had in Medellin for sure. The restaurant itself is quite small with just a few tables. 

The hot dog prices are quite high, but it is after all gourmet hot dogs. The quality of ingredients is definitely higher than most other hot dog places in Medellin. I highly recommend you to have a meal there at least once. I am sure you would love it.

The staff at the Tika Dogs Gourmet is always welcoming and friendly. And although they don’t speak good English, they did their best with explaining everything and helping with our choice.

Douraku

Douraku is a hidden gem in Medellin. Douraku is a restaurant that serves the best Hokkaido style ramen in Medellin. It is one of the best restaurants in Medellin that serve ramen.

Douraku restaurant doesn’t look like much. The restaurant is located near the busy road, and they have a few tables on the terrace. If you don’t know about this place you definitely would not think that it might be anything worth trying. 

Douraku’s menu is not that big. They offer a few types of ramen, a few starters and a dessert. We got almost every type of ramen, and each was delicious. I would also recommend gyoza, they’re quite good. 

The prices and the service here are great. Our food always arrived fast, and our waiters (I think there were just two of them) were always very friendly.

OCI.mde

OCI.mde is an upscale restaurant that is very hard to get into. OCI.mde is considered by many to be one of the best restaurants in Medellin. And although it is an upscale restaurant it is also somewhat casual and relaxing. 

Although OCI.mde is quite a big place with many tables, it is always booked. If you are planning on getting dinner in this restaurant, you should book a table in advance (at least a few days before). If you don’t have enough time, try to get in for lunch, it is usually easier to book a table during the day. 

The food at OCI.mde is excellent. Their slow cooked short ribs are divine. The cocktails are great as well. 

For such a popular place don’t be surprised that the prices are a bit higher than everywhere else.

Ene Rooftop 

Ene Rooftop is a great place to continue your evening after a good dinner. Ene Rooftop is a cute bar-restaurant on one of Poblados bar streets. It offers delicious cocktails,  good music, and good hookah. 

Ene Rooftop is not the cheapest place for getting cocktails (even so, the prices are reasonable), but the hookah is quite cheap (compared to other places). Food here is comparable in price to the surrounding area, but I find it better than most restaurants on the street.

Ene Rooftop has a great atmosphere, and if you are looking to socialize I recommend you visit this place. However Mondays through Wednesdays are slow days in Ene Rooftop.

ANIMAL COCINA PROVENZA 

Animal Cocina Provenza is a restaurant that serves amazing burgers. I would even say that they serve the best burgers in Medellin. And you would love how insanely cheap they are. 

The menu at Animal Cocina Provenza has such a great variety of burgers that at first I couldn’t choose which one I wanted to try first. Later I came back to this place a few times and made a list of my favorite burgers which includes: burger with pulled pork, onion ring burger, and roquefort cheese burger. 

For being in such a desirable location the prices are very surprising. Most burgers will be less than $5 USD and beers are just $1!

Restaurante Mistura Provenza

Restaurante Mistura Provenza is actually right next door to Relato. It is also a little more upscale but still reasonable. The menu here includes a bunch of different dishes so there’s something for everyone. 

Mistura Provenza is mostly Asian-fusion style food, so expect that if you come here. However they also have some pretty good steak if you want some tasty red meat. 

I visited this place a few times and always got sushi here, so I am not sure how most of the dishes are, but sushi rolls are quite delicious. 

I can also recommend their cocktails. It might be a bit pricey, but they are very good.

Bonhomía

If you are looking for a place to meet your friends, Bonhomia is a great choice. It is a charming restaurant with a great atmosphere. I just love the combination of an old stone building with a glass terrace, and lots of greenery.

Bonhomia’s specialty is pizza (and I highly recommend it), but they also have a wide variety of other dishes. 

We have been to Bonhomia a few times and every time the service was great. The food arrives fast and the waiters are always friendly and speak good English. 

The prices in Bonhomia are reasonable, so you don’t need to worry that you are going to spend a fortune here.
