Jungle Beach Unawatuna

There are two different parts of the jungle beach in Unawatuna, each separated by about 200 meters of large boulders. In this article I’ll tell you which of the two Jungle Beach locations you should visit, as well as how to get to each. Visiting Jungle Beach is one of the most popular things to do in Uluwatu for locals and international tourists alike.

Jungle Beach From Japanese Peace Pagoda

If you are visiting the famous Unawatuna site, the Japanese Peace Pagoda, you are in luck. Right down the street from the Buddhist temple is the trail to the best Jungle Beach. I can’t say for certain, but this part seems like the less touristy segment of the beach. You follow the trail past a few guest houses and restaurants, then make your way down a mess of rocks and tree roots until you emerge with a view of a gorgeous sandy beach surrounded by jungle.

This beach only has 1 shack selling drinks, and NO sunloungers for rent. Most of the visitors were just laying down on the sand, or on a towel. The locals are also here at this beach, but they tended to hang around the edges, under the trees and out of the sun.

The prices for drinks here are actually better than what we were getting at Unawatuna beach, with a Lion tallboy costing 350 rupees, or about $2.

From The Car Park

If you google maps Jungle Beach, it will take you to the car park, from where you will make your way down a slight slope to the beach. This is also where a tuktuk will take you if you request a ride to Jungle Beach. For this reason, this part of the beach is far more touristy and crowded. There are people selling goods, sunloungers for rent, and multiple food and beverage vendors.

There are still good parts however. The beach has beautiful white sand which is softer than the aforementioned beach. However I personally would not go to stay at this part of Jungle Beach because it just is not as relaxing as the part by the Japanese Peace Pagoda.

As we only walked to this part of the beach from where we lounged for a few hours on the other beach, I don’t have prices for drinks (or sunloungers) but I would presume they are more expensive.
