For those who are planning on exploring the West of Ukraine and visiting Mukachevo I wrote a detailed review of Hotel Star with all the pros and cons. I hope this article will help you with choosing an accommodation in Mukachevo.
Mukachevo is a small city in the West of Ukraine in Zakarpattia oblast. It is located an hour from Uzhhorod by bus and around 5 hours from Lviv by train (two cities that you probably will travel from to Mukachevo). Mukachevo might not be the most popular tourist destination in Ukraine, but the city does have things to offer for tourists.
Hotel Star is located in the old town of Mukachevo, across the street from the Ratusha (town hall).
The hotel is surrounded by a nice walking alley with a lot of monuments to see, things to do, and good restaurants to eat at.
The hotel has its own parking (if needed ask the front desk).
Hotel Star is a quite big place with 4 floors and many rooms. On each floor there is a public area – a few soft armchairs and a coffee table. On the first floor, near the front desk you will find a nice waiting area with comfortable couches and armchairs as well.
The hotel has its own restaurant where breakfast is served in a cute courtyard.
The check-in took just a few minutes. We were given all the needed information and shown to our room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The check-out was very efficient as well.
There are cleaning services in the hotel every day.
With a standard room you don’t get breakfast included at the hotel Star. However you can always pay for the breakfast yourself. It costs 200 UAH per person, which is currently less than $6.
The hotel restaurant has three choices of breakfast: Ukrainian, English and Fitness breakfasts.
Out of three choices we would choose the Ukrainian one and the English breakfast. The Ukrainian one contains an omelet, crepes filled with cottage cheese, and a cup of coffee or tea. The English one includes oatmeal, two sunny side up eggs, sausage, cooked beans and of course, coffee or tea.
At the hotel Star we book a basic room with two twin beds.
Our room was on the 4th floor, which was a bit inconvenient, since the elevator goes just to the 3rd floor and the rest of the way you need to take stairs.
Our room had one skylight window, besides the beds were side tables. The room also had a large wardrobe and a table, plus a small flat screen TV.
I must mention that our room was one of the most basic and therefore cheapest rooms in the Hotel Star. However, the room was quite comfortable with all necessities we needed, including air conditioner, mini fridge, and even some dishes and glasses.
Our bathroom had a decent size. We didn’t have a bath tub, but a standing shower cabin. The water pressure was very good and the water got hot very fast.
Some of the amenities were provided by the hotel (shampoos, body wash, shower caps and soap).
Hotel Star might not be a 5 star hotel, but it is a pretty decent place to spend a few nights, especially because this hotel has one of the best locations in the city
